The Law of Aerodynamics

Do you remember your first plane ride?  What were you anticipating?  Were you filled with fear or excitement that you could hardly contain?

When I was 21 years old I experienced my first jet plane ride.  Although I had flown on small planes such as Piper Cubs and Cessnas I had never flown at 40,000′ and I was overjoyed to be flying from Anchorage, Alaska to Cleveland, Ohio.  As I boarded the airplane and found my window seat in the back of the cabin I could hardly sit still at the thought of flying.  Winter was imminent and the previous days had been some of the stormiest I had seen in Anchorage; miserably cold and wet, ominously grey, and unbearably windy.  The plane departed and we slowly gained altitude before bursting through the clouds.  Not only were we illuminated with morning sunshine but we had breathtaking views of the vast Chugach Range.

I had always known theoretically that if you were at an altitude above the highest cirrus clouds then you would always be in the sunshine and have clear views, but, in that moment I experienced this truth in a visceral way.   Suddenly, I personally experienced what it felt like to be in a raging storm one moment and completely above the storm a moment later.  I was instantly reminded of a verse the Lord showed me a few years prior which says, “The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:2 NASB).  And I was reminded of the revelation He gave me that the law of the Spirit did not nullify the law of sin and death but superseded it in the same way that the law of aerodynamics superseded the law of gravity.

Sadly, many people are destroyed and shipwrecked in raging financial storms.  They live in debt in a constant state of financial survival, fighting depression, worry, fear and hopelessness.  Although the Lord has supplied all of our needs and says that He will give us the desires of our heart very few Christian believers’ lives reflect this promise.   Why is there such a disparity between the promises of God and our experience?  First, most Christians are completely ignorant of the truth and what God has promised.  Second, if they know the promises of God then they are completely ignorant of how to obtain them and how to live in the kingdom of God.

Hosea 4:6 declares, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (NASB).  Ignorance is not bliss!  If you eat something poisonous it will kill you even if you don’t know what you are doing.  Gravity will kill you if you jump off a cliff even if you don’t know that gravity exists or that there is such a thing as the law of gravity.  Not only can ignorance kill you, but it can imprison you.  It doesn’t matter if you are ignorant of the criminal laws in America, if you violate them you will be punished.  Isaiah 5:13 reveals, “Therefore my people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge…” (NKJV).

Many people live in bondage for ignorantly violating spiritual laws.  But, the good news is that knowledge is liberating and life-giving:  “and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32 NLT).  When you get a revelation of who God is, and of who you are in God then you will begin to supersede the power of gravity.  When you begin to understand the kingdom of God and how it works then you will discover financial freedom.  When you discover what is legally yours and wisely go after it your life will be transformed.

The law of aerodynamics is not magic but it is supernaturally natural.  How else can a fully loaded 747 weighing 875,000 pounds (397,00 kg) defy gravity?  Remember, if you have a perfectly designed plane but no fuel you will never get off the runway.  Similarly, it doesn’t matter how much fuel you have or how skilled your pilot is, if your plane has no wings you will never fly.  There is nothing magical about obtaining the promises of God but there is something exquisitely mysterious and powerfully synergistic.  When you become a giver, steward, saver, investor and diligent worker, the result is a multiplication of your resources, time, and talents.

The unforgettable experience: a priceless flight at 40,000 with peace, beauty, and vision.
