My favorite name of God is an indirect title given to Him found in a short story in the Old Testament. David the shepherd boy turned warrior-worshipper was promoted as king over all Israel. The minute that his arch enemy the Philistines (5 city-states) heard the news they set out to make war on Israel. David heard that they were coming and went out to meet them in the Valley of Rephaim (the Valley of Giants). Then David inquired of the Lord whether God would be with him and give him the victory if he attacked the Philistines and the Lord said he would. So David attacked and slaughtered his enemy. Then David declared, “God did it! He used me to burst through my enemies like a raging flood!” So they named that place Baal-perazim, which means “the Lord who bursts through”, “God of the breakthrough” or “Master of the breakthrough” (1 Chronicles 14:11).
Is it any surprise that just when David was made king, and his life-long dream was being realized that his enemy came to destroy him? Is it any wonder that you are facing a huge financial battle just as you are stepping into your beginning to fulfill your dreams?
The battle that David faced was in the Valley of the Giants but the heart of the battle was whether he knew and believed that God was with him. You may be facing a financial battle against the Giants of Debt, Bankruptcy, and Poverty but the true battle you are facing is the battle between your ears. Will you focus your mind on the giants, or, will you focus your mind on how great your God is and who he has called you to be? You must ascertain whether God is with you and whether he will give you the victory over debt, bankruptcy, and poverty? You must know that you know that you know that God is with you and that he will give you the victory.
When you focus on the giants you will see yourself as nothing more than a grasshopper. And if you see yourself as a grasshopper you will be filled with fear. But, when you focus on how great your God is and that he is the Master of the breakthrough you will remember that you are made in the image of God and you will see yourself in like manner. You will see yourself as a warrior and master of breakthroughs and you will be filled with confidence, courage, and power. When you are impressed beyond a doubt that He is with you and that He will give you the victory over debt, bankruptcy, and poverty, then nothing will be able to stop you. You will burst through and destroy the enemy like a raging flood.
You have a new job description and a new business title: you are a Master of the Breakthrough.
